A Fashion Magazine in Haskell

Posted by alpheccar - Feb 24 2008 at 20:15 CEST

If you want another proof that Haskell is going mainstream, here is one : a Fashion Magazine developed in Haskell. And I am happy because they are using my HPDF library to generate it. The mag is created in an automatic way from the blogs of the 360Fashion Network : a network of fashion professionals who try to give an insider view of the fashion industry. So, expect to see lots of pictures blogged from mobile phones during the fashion weeks.

Due to limitations in my PDF library (like the lack of a constraint library), the layout of the mag is still very simple. It is a development release that will improve as soon as I release an update to my library. So, now I have a good reason for continuing to work on it :-)

The desktop version is available at this link and the mobile version here. The mobile version is not as small as you may think but it is working on iPhone and S60 phones without problems.

Here is a screenshot. Most of the posts are in English but not the one in this screenshot:

Reasons to study Haskell ...

Posted by Fritz - Mar 13 2008 at07:14 CEST

OK, now I can add to the list of reasons to study Haskell for my students:

  • mathematical syntax and semantics;
  • great job opportunities (see Galois);
  • sweeping OSCON like wildfire (see Simon's talk);
  • meet French fashion models! :)

Perhaps they'll model some Haskell merchandise from haskell.org?
